Cherry Bloom!

Yesterday, a few of my girlfriends from high school came to visit and do a "DC Day."  The Cherry Blossoms decided to start their peak bloom a little early this year, which was great for us!  A couple of the girls had never seen them, so it was fun to play tour guide. Though it was a little chilly, the weather did not deter us from all that we wanted to do.

Stop 1:  Tidal Basin to see the Cherry Blossoms

Washington Monument with some Cherry Blossoms in the foreground

The cloudless sky looked almost unreal!

My friend, Katey, and I--the two preggos!  She's also having a little boy, due in July!
My new Facebook profile pic!

The five of us...we missed our friend Katie, who was just put on full bed rest.

Most of the blossoms were still white, but will probably turn pink early this week.

Stop 2: Georgetown

My friend, Kim, had recently seen an Italian restaurant in Georgetown, Filomena, featured on a show on the Travel Channel.  She recommended we try it for dinner, so I called about a week and a half earlier and made a reservation.  They only had two reservations left!  I guess it is a very well-known place!

When you enter the restaurant, you immediately go downstairs into the basement, which was really dark.  The decor was best described as eclectic, as they were already decorated for Easter with bunnies, baskets, and eggs all over the place, even hanging from the ceiling!  All part of the experience!  We had a great meal!

The plan for dessert was to visit this little place, which you may have heard of...

but apparently every other visitor in Georgetown had the same idea.  You would not have believed the line!  Apparently once you get a show on TLC, everyone wants to check you out!

They also have a location closer to our house, so I suggested we start driving home and stop there instead, which we did.  There was still a line, but it was much, much shorter.  A few months ago, I could go there and walk right in to pick up come cupcakes.  My how things quickly change!

Between the five of us, we ordered a dozen cupcakes and brought them back to my house to sample.  As always, they were fantastic!  My blood sugar has been really good (almost low) recently, so I was even able to partake in the deliciousness!

Overall, it was a great day with some of my oldest friends!  It's sometimes so difficult for us all to get together due to our busy schedules, but once we do, it's like we've never been apart!

Girls Night Out!

Last night, some friends and I had our official first Girls Night Out!  I say official because, of course we get together for different celebrations and gatherings, but this is the first of our planned monthly Girls Night Outs.  We've decided that we'll plan something each month, and whoever can come, will come and whoever can't, will just miss that month.  It's a good excuse to get together with just the girls!  Of the six of us who attended last night, four of us went to high school together (can't believe I've known these girls for more than 15 years!), one is the cousin of a friend/sister of one of our guy friends, and one is a former roomate of two of the girls, so we have a nice mix of people!

Our first GNO (yeah, kinda a weird acronym...when the first e-mail about this came around, "GNO" was in the subject line, and I, not carefully reading, thought, "Why the heck is Kim writing me an e-mail about the GYNO?"  Haha!) was held at my friend Kim's cute house in the city.  She made a delicious dinner of spicy savory shrimp and rice, along with a salad and bread.  We had Rice Krispie treats for dessert, of which I enjoyed two. I had given up dessert for Lent, but have now changed to what some of my friends are doing which is giving up desserts that start with the letter "C." Gives a little freedom to enjoy the good things in life!It was nice to just eat, drink some wine, and chit chat.

Later on, we walked to a nearby bar for some drinks and dancing.  We had our drinks of choice for the night, Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka and Lemonade, and danced to some Britney!  We had some fun discussing the fact that it was the middle of February and some of the girls at the bar clearly thought it was July with their dresses and heels.  Jeans and black boots were the outfits of choice for us.  We still looked cute...covered up, but cute!

I'm looking forward to the next GNO (not on a Friday night next time!)!!  Here are some pics of the attendees of our February GNO:
